Proposals for permitting of waste motor vehicles: standard rules consultation 33

Overview

The Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 allow us to make standard rules to reduce the administrative burden on business while maintaining environmental standards. This consultation proposes a new standard rules permit for waste motor vehicles and a new mandatory standards document that will apply to the standard rules permit. The proposed rules and standards relate to the storage, depollution and dismantling of waste motor vehicles.

The consultation also proposes to replace existing standard rules permits SR2015 No13 and SR2008 No 20 with the proposed new standard rules permit SR2025 No 8.  

We would like your views on the proposed standard rules permit, risk assessment, standards document and replacement of existing rules with the new standard rules permit.

The consultation responses will be considered and will inform any changes to the standard rules permit, associated generic risk assessment and standards document which will be published on GOV.UK.

Responding to this consultation

This consultation will run from 17 December 2025 until midnight on 10 March 2026. We will consider all responses received by the closing date before finalising our proposals to submit for approval by government.
