Dear Sirs
I am writing to object to the proposed environmental changes submitted by Indaver in respect of the Rivenhall Incinerator. My objections are as follows:-
1. The Government, which the Environment Agency forms part, has finally woken up to the fact that incinerators emit toxins and dangerous chemicals into the air that we breathe, recycling rates are reduced in areas where incinerators are located, toxic waste is produced which has to go to landfill and CO2 emissions are a climate change issue.
2. The phased construction and operation of the incinerator is likely to have an impact on human health. Indaver will be unable to prove that human health will not be affected.
3. Discharge of water into River Blackwater - our rivers are polluted enough - private companies, including Statutory Water Boards, are unable to control the quality of discharges into rivers. This is effectively a money saving exercise by Indaver - they should be made to supply tankers and remove any discharge to specialist treatment plants. In addition, there will be an increased risk of flooding. Increased storm activity and rainfall intensity is all part of climate change - not helped by the fact that the incinerator will produce enormous quantities of CO2.
4. Processing, namely burning, plastic packaging, medicines, plastics, chemicals, resins etc not already permitted - is the incinerator plant/smoke stack etc able to cope with the burning of these wastes without affecting the environment.
5. Removal of Condition 17 - we do not want see a 800m plume. Indaver should not be allowed to change the existing permissio.
6. Electricity and heat generation - it is now likely that the plant will not produce the amount of electricity previous proposed. Also, where is the heat being directed to?
7. Indaver should not be allowed to omit the AD and paper pulping - again a money saving exercise
8. Indaver should not be allowed to have further attempts to change the permit conditions.
