The Environment Agency chairs a multi-agency group that has been set up in response to the odours coming from Aycliffe Quarry Landfill Site. The other members of the group are UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), Darlington Borough Council and Durham County Council.
The Environment Agency's role is to regulate the landfill site to make sure that it is complying with environmental legislation and to take appropriate action when needed. We monitor the impact of the site on the local environment, including collecting air quality monitoring data. UKHSA’s role is to review the monitoring data and provide public health advice.
The partners would like to thank those who have taken the time to report odours in and around the Darlington and Newton Aycliffe Area. These reports are really important to us to help find the source, assess the impact and take action to mitigate the smells.
