River Leen Strategy SEA Scoping Report Consultation

Overview

The Environment Agency is developing a Strategy for the River Leen to respond to the challenges of managing fluvial flood risk across the catchment and to unlock broader opportunities for improvement. The Strategy aims to reduce flood risk for residents, properties and businesses, while also contributing to wider objectives such as promoting nature recovery, supporting Water Framework Directive status improvements, delivering net zero carbon, and enabling regeneration and more sustainable, resilient communities.

The Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) scoping report sets out the process and the proposed scope for assessing the likely environmental impacts of the River Leen Strategy.

This report is shared for consultation to seek feedback from designated statutory bodiesand non-statutory consultees on the proposed scope, baseline information and draft SEA objectives and assessment approach. This feedback will help inform the ongoing development of both the Strategy and the SEA. The report concludes with a series of questions which we would ask you to respond to using the below consultation.

You can find further information on the strategy at our dedicated engagement page Here

Why your views matter

The aim of this consultation is to gather feedback on the proposed scope, baseline information and draft SEA approach and objectives, which will help shape the ongoing development of both the Strategy and the SEA. We welcome your views on whether the proposed scope appropriately reflects the context and the early River Leen Strategy information currently available.

What happens next

Once we have collected all of the consultee responses we will review them with our consultants developing the River Leen Strategy – Ove Arup and Partners. After assessing the scale and nature of the responses we will provide a summary to highlight how the feedback will be used to shape the continuing development of the River Leen Strategy.
