Environmental incident updates will be sent out during a significant or major incident, in line with our incident response procedures. We are the Environment Agency and we are Category 1 incident responders for flooding and environmental incidents. We are piloting a new service for providing updates to members of the public on environmental incidents. We are the data controller for this process. A data controller determines how and why personal data (personal information) is processed. The personal data we are collecting about you here includes:
• Your email address
• Whether you are opting in to receive notifications as a local resident, local business, local community group or media
We are allowed to process your personal data because you consent to us doing so by providing us with these details. You have the right to withdraw consent at any time. The lawful basis for processing your personal data is consent.
What we do with your personal data
Incident notifcations
The Environment Agency will use your email address to contact you during environmental incidents where we will provide you with relevant information including any advice and guidance. This will be at the discretion of the duty incident staff.
We will only use the information on your affiliation to help us improve this service in the future.
How long we keep your personal data
We will keep the personal data you have provided as part of our records until this service is superseded or changed for operational reasons. As mentioned above, you can ask for your personal data to be removed at any time.
Where your personal data is processed and stored
We store and process your personal data on our servers in the UK. We will not transfer your personal data outside the European Economic Area.
