I should like to raise the following points as to why an Enviromental Permit should NOT be awarded to EKR at the Oare Creek Site. FLOODING. As you can see from attached photograph there is great potential for flooding in this area. Not all of EKR’s yard is concreted, there appears to be no authentic flood management plan, no interceptor trap to remove contaminates , contaminates would inevitably drain into Oare Creek from there to the Swale and the sea. WILDLIFE This is a sensitive area close to Oare Marshes, no provision appears to have been made to protect wildlife EROSION OF SEA WALL. EKR’s lorries travelling along the access road are gradually eroding the sea wall. This access road is also a public footpath, part of the Saxon Shore Way. There is no mention of protecting the footpath or the walkers using it, which the members of Uproare have formally applied to KCC to adopt. POLLUTION. The site is adjacent to a planned housing estate and opposite Church Road in Oare Village. The noise of crushing and the constant beeping of lorries on the site has not improved contrary to what is stated. The noise and lights from the site impact heavily on Oare residents. No consideration appears to have been made for the residents of Oare. EKR cannot know what is in all the skips they accept on site, they state “waste acceptance seek to ensure only PERMITTED WASTE is accepted” surely this should be guaranteed, seeking to ensure is not good enough to comply with the law EKR must guarantee that non-permitted material is not accepted. IN CONCLUSION. Who is going to ensure that EKR comply with all conditions? Who is going to monitor the cleaning and sweeping of the yard and clearing litter from creek and access road.? Who is going to enforce the speed limit on access road? Over the past five years or so since EKR commenced operations on this site nothing has been done to police their activities.
