There is likely to be significant noise and odour from the site affecting the existing neighbours. I understand that new housing is planned very near the EKR plant and noise and odour would impact the new development. The site is on the edge of a site of special scientific interest, a special protection area and a Ramsar area (a wetland of international importance designated under the Ramsar Convention). Noise and dust already emanates from the site, disturbing existing residents, wildlife and the Saxon Shore Way. The new plant is likely to be much noisier – an enforceable decibel limit should be included in the permit, should it proceed. Many locals have reported seeing discolouration in the lagoon into which the East Kent Recycling plant discharges water - this should be investigated and further pollution should not be permitted. Light pollution from the site, already an issue, will become a more significant issue if the site is allowed to operate from 5am to 8pm. I am also concerned about how much supervision and inspection the Environment Agency will be able to undertake to ensure compliance with the permit if one is issued.
