Building collaboration through engagement to manage flood and coastal erosion risk – project information page

Closes 31 Aug 2020

Opened 3 Aug 2018

Overview

We know climate change is going to increase flood or coastal erosion risk for many communities. There will be some places where the current ways to manage risk will not work in the long term, and alternative, more sustainable options will be needed. We need to work closely with those communities to help them make decisions about their future.

Our aim is for authorities and communities to build a shared understanding of flood/coastal risk and we have started a research project to find better ways of doing this. Our project will design a community engagement programme which we will then pilot in two locations.

We can then learn from and adapt these approaches depending on how well they work. We will produce resources and guidance for flood and coastal erosion risk management authorities.

Can you help us?

Do you work for a risk management authority? Are you engaging on complex situations around future flood/coastal risk management? If so, we’d like to hear from you.

We want to know:

  • What are the key challenges?
  • Which places are experiencing these challenges?
  • Do you have examples of good practice to share?
  • What should be included in our products?

This survey is aimed at people working in flood risk management authorities. If you're a member of the public and would like to get involved please contact us.
