Staff survey - what’s the future for flood and coastal management in England?

Overview

Managing flood and coastal erosion risk takes a collective effort across risk management authorities, communities and other partners.  We all work hard at bringing partners together and making those relationships work.  And we've seen great successes since the Floods and Water Management Act changes.

However, the challenges of managing flood and coastal erosion risk are growing and we need to make sure we're fit for the future.  Updating the FCERM Strategy is one way in which we can do that and we've been focussing on this in the Directorate and with Operational colleagues over recent months

Working with the whole flooding and coastal risk management community

Managing those challenges in the future will require even greater collaboration between the partners.  For risks to be managed well we need to coordinate our actions and listen to each other's priorities, needs and concerns.  We believe that by doing this the outcomes will be collectively owned and delivered because they are important to all.

We are working with a small group of our flood and coastal management partners – including local authorities, water companies, charities and the private sector, as well as widening that conversation with a wide set of stakeholders.

We have been having conversations with teams across the Directorate and Operations but we would like to hear from a wider group of people.  We are currently at the early scoping stage and want to hear your views using this short online survey to help:

  • identify the challenges that this work should address.
  • us decide what we should be championing as a participant in this process.
  • us review the early outputs from our work with partners and shape the next steps.

It will not take you long - around 20 minutes to complete.

Nothing you write will be attributed to you.  There will be further opportunities for you to have your say.

We will publish a summary of responses through this e-consultation tool.
